Raised on Indian Land until the age of fifteen, she left and spent a year in the Australian Outback as an 'exchange student'. She received an FCC license in the '80's, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies & Journalism from CSU Sacramento and a Master's Degree in Rhetoric & Communication from UC Davis. Her books, The Noise Beneath the Apple(R); and My Headdress Is On Fire, have won several awards including Independent Book of the Year, Book Fest, Shelf Unbound and Notable Indie Book.
