Albert Rechts was the pen name of Sir Charles Brett (1928-2005), an Irish solicitor, journalist, and architectural historian. Brett wrote numerous volumes on the history of Irish architecture, but Handbook to a Hypothetical City is his only work of fiction. He was knighted in 1990 for his work advocating public housing.
