Professor Frances Fowle is Chair of Nineteenth-Century Art
at the University of Edinburgh and Senior Curator of French
Art at the National Galleries of Scotland. She is also senior
trustee of Sir William Burrell’s Trust. Author of Van Gogh’s
Twin: The Scottish Art Dealer Alexander Reid (1854–1928),
she has curated or contributed to numerous exhibitions on
collecting and Impressionism, including Degas and America:
the Early Collectors (2001), Van Gogh and Britain: Pioneer
Collectors (2006), Impressionism and Scotland (2008),
Inspiring Impressionism: Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh (2016)
and A Taste for Impressionism (2022).
