Kathleen Marshall received her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Virginia in 1983. As an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, her responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in introduction to special education, learning disabilities, mental retardation, and severe and profound handicapping conditions. She also teaches special education methods courses for pre-service teachers and advanced master's and doctoral courses in special education. Her areas of specialization are learning disabilities and mental retardation. Her experience as a special educator includes teaching elementary school children with learning disabilities and mental retardation, and ongoing service as a special education consultant for mainstreaming programs and curriculum development in a local school district. At the University of South Carolina, she is the field practicum supervisor for pre-service teachers specializing in behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and mental retardation.
