As a girl, books were among Gayle's best friends and inspired her dream of writing for children someday. She graduated from college with Honors in Creative Writing. Her short stories have been published in several children's magazines. Her first middle grade novel, What the Moon Said (Putnam 2014) was a Jr. Library Guild selection and her second, Cold War on Maplewood Street (Putnam 2015) won the Tofte-Wright Award for Children's Literature. Today, Gayle is happily at work on her next book in her home near Madison, Wisconsin, where she lives with husband Don and rescue dog, Fiona.
