Dr. Ram Chandra is currently working as Head & Sr.Principal Scientist in Environmental Microbiology Division at CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India. He has worked Professor and founder Head in Department of Environmental Microbiology at B.B. Ambedkar Central University, Lucknow, India from 2011 to 2014. He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) 1984, and M.Sc. (1987) from Banaras Hindu University, India. Subsequently, his Ph.D. was awarded in 1994. He started his carrier as Scientist B at Industrial Toxicology Research Centre Lucknowin area of Biotechnology in 1989. Finally He became as Sr. Principal Scientist (Scientist F) in 2009 in area of Environmental Microbiology at Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR) Lucknow. He has leading work for bacterial degradation of lignin from pulp paper mill waste and molassesmelanoidins from distillery waste. His main focus is bacterial degradationand decolourisation of melanoidins of distillery waste and lignin of pulp paper mill waste water. He has published more than 90 original research articles in peer reviewed journal of high impact. He has also published 04 books and 19 book chapters on biodegradation and bioremediation of industrial pollutants. He has guided more than 14 Ph.D. students in his area. He has been awarded Fellow of The Academy of Environmental Biology (FAEB), Fellow of Association of Microbiologists of India (FAMI), and Fellow of The Biotech Research Society, India (FBRSI). He is member of Board of Governors, BRSI and executive member of Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI). He is member of several national and international scientific societies.
