Douglas Ashby retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department as Battalion Chief after almost 35 years in the fire service. He began his career in 1967 as a firefighter. He worked his way through the ranks with assignments as diverse as fire prevention, 9-1-1 emergency communications, special projects, and field operations as a battalion chief. He earned his B.A. degree from Cal State Los Angeles and his Master's degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu. Douglas is also a co-host on What's the Story?(TM)/The LeRue Book Hound(TM) Radio Show on America Matters Media. He believes that firefighters are just ordinary men and women, committed and trained for extraordinary circumstances and hopes that his story and the stories of the brave firefighters he has known reflects their service and sacrifice.
