Zhe Zhang was born in Jiangsu province in 1944 and graduated from Tangshan Institute of Railway (now Southwest Jiaotong University) in 1967. Zhe Zhang is professor of Dalian University of Technology. He is the director of Bridge & Tunnel Research Laboratory of Dalian University of Technology, the director of Wind Tunnel Laboratory of Dalian University of Technology, the director of Design Institute of Civil Engineering & Architecture of DUT and the vice director of Modern Engineering Test Co. Ltd. of DUT. He had taken charge of about 200 projects in bridge engineering. The bridges have their unique features. Some bridges are the first form in China or the biggest type in China. For example, Jinma Bridge is the longest single concrete single-plane cable-stayed bridges in the world and Xinghai Bridge is the first double-deck steel truss suspension constructing in the sea in China. Professor Zhe Zhang had published more than 200 research papers and obtained 15 patents in China. He received May 1 Labor Medal of Dalian City (2015), Liaoning Province Prize for Progress in Science and Technology Award (2014), Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award (2011, 2005) and Ministry of Education Prize for Progress in Science and Technology Award (2008).
