Akira Hirose received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Yokohama National University, and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, all in electrical engineering. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he joined the Plasma Physics Laboratory, University of Saskatchewan, where he is Professor and Director. He has authored and coauthored more than 300 journal articles. He is a Fellow of APS, IEEE, and the Royal Society of Canada (Academy of Science), and has been Canada Research Chair since 2001.
