Pat Carney has worked as a business journalist, educator and politician over the course of her career. She served on the Senate of Canada between 1990 and 2008 and was awarded the Order of Canada for her contributions in these fields. Carney is the author of Trade Secrets: A Memoir (Key Porter, 2000). She currently lives on Saturna Island in BC's Gulf Islands.
