After teaching in prep schools, RAF bases, secondary schools, colleges of further education and universities John Smart began to write. His first books, critical studies of Modern Drama and Modernism, were published by Cambridge University Press. He won the New Writers Award for non-fiction in 2005 and was shortlisted for the First Biography Award from the Biographers’ Club for his biography of John Hayward and his Circle.
