REX NELSON was born in Pennsylvania but calls the Pacific Northwest home. An engineer by training, Rex first visited Antarctica for a one-year contract at McMurdo Station and returned for three summer contracts at Palmer Station. Apparently not having had enough of the cold, he then spent a winter in the Arctic at the summit of the Greenland ice cap. A true testament to his lack of sanity, he returned to Greenland five years later-this time during the spring. Look for Rex on a bike, next to a campfire, under a kite, or in a daze.
