Nicholas Tarling was Professor of History at the University of Auckland from 1968 to 1997, and is currently a Fellow of its New Zealand Asia Institute. He was editor of the Cambridge History of Southeast Asia. His most recent books include Britain and the West New Guinea Dispute 1949–1962 (Mellen, 2008) and Britain and the Neutralisation of Laos (National University of Singapore Press, 2011).
