Maureen Smith has enjoyed reading Harlequin romances ever since she was thirteen years old, when she used to sneak books from her mother's endless supply and devour them in one day. Those romantic, heartwarming stories made her realise that there was something quite extraordinary about two people meeting and overcoming all odds to be together. Hence, a romance novelist was born.

At the age of seventeen, she penned her first novel, a tender young adult romance entitled Love and War. As to the book's literary merit, Maureen pleads the Fifth!

Maureen received a BA in English from the University of Maryland, College Park and worked as a freelance writer while she wrote her first romantic suspense novel. To her delight, she was nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award and an Emma Award for Favourite New Author. Ghosts of Fire also won the Romance in Colour Reviewers' Choice Awards for New Author of the Year and Romantic Suspense of the Year. Maureen's second novel, With Every Breath, was also nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award, and garnered four Emma Award nominations in the categories of Favourite Hero, Favourite Romantic Suspense, Author of the Year and Book of the Year.

Maureen lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband, two children, a cat and a miniature schnauzer.
