Pierre de Nolhac was a French historian and poet from the 19th century. He became Director of the Chateau de Versailles Museum in 1892; a critical role as he gathered the art and furniture that had been dispersed during the Revolution. Elected as a member of the Academie Francaise in 1922, his written work on 18th-century France, including the art of the time, the Chateau de Versailles, French nobility, Marie Antoinette, Jean Marc Nattier, and Maurice Quentin de Latour, are seminal pieces to this day.
