Franz Von Loher was a democrat during Germany's 1848 revolutions. He was a German lawyer and historian. He traveled widely across the United States. He studied law, history, natural science, and art in Halle, Munich, Freiburg, and Berlin, and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States from 1846 to 1847. The end of his adventures in the United States brought him to Cincinnati, where he stayed for seven months. He gave public talks on "the significance of the German people in world history." He left for home on October 2, 1847. When he returned to Germany, he actively participated in the political revolt of 1848. He started the Westphalische Zeitung and was imprisoned by the authorities for political agitation, but was eventually freed following a trial.
