Gwynn Davis was born in Aberystwyth in 1947 and spoke Welsh as his first language. His family moved to the Isle of Wight, returning to Aberystwyth when he was nine. He wrote many of the stories in Aberystwyth Boy when in his early thirties, but put them to one side to pursue an academic career. On retirement he returned to the tales, edited them and wrote several more. He lives with his partner in Cardiff.
