Laura grew up on Long Island in the 1970s with older sisters. She originally wanted to be a singer, but finding she had a better aptitude for literature instead decided to write. When going off to college at the University of Georgia she was already outlining the idea for her first novel, yet did not actually write it for another twenty years. In this time she married and focused on raising a family.
