Dalton Trumbo had a screenwriting career that spanned five decades. He won Academy Awards for The Brave One and Roman Holiday. His novel Johnny Got His Gun won a National Book Award in 1939. Trumbo was one of the Hollywood Ten, a group of writers and directors who refused to testify to their political affiliations before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947. Trumbo was born in Montrose, Colorado, on December 9,1905, and was raised in Grand Junction, Colorado. He died on September 10,1976, in California.
