John Hughes is a Sydney-based Australian writer and teacher. He grew up in a migrant household (his mother and grandparents are Ukrainian), as such, he's had a lifelong fascination with Europe and Australia's relationship to it. In 2012 his book, The Idea of Home, was voted the National Year of Reading 'Our Story' winner for New South Wales and in the same year his novel, The Remnants, was published to critical acclaim. He is currently Senior Master in English and Senior Librarian at Sydney Grammar School.
