Erin Pizzey, born in 1939, returned to England from the Far East in 1960, and founded Chiswick Women's Aid in 1971. Her book, Scream Quietly or the Neighbours Wil Hear, was published as a Penguin Special in 1974. It was the first book in the world on wife battering. International author, published poet and playwright, Erin Pizzey is the international founder of refuges for battered women and children. Author of many novels, and non-fiction as well as articles for The New Statesman, The Sunday Times, Cosmopolitan and many other journals, magazines and newspapers worldwide she is well known for her work with the less privileged.
