Barbara Fifer majored in creative writing and comparative literature at Ohio University while working summers at a daily newspaper. She went on to co-edit the Montana Historical Society's journal, Montana: The Magazine of Western History, and has since edited and written innumerable magazine articles and books. These include the following Farcountry titles: Deadwood Saints and Sinners; Wanted! Wanted Posters of the Old West; Montana Mining Ghost Towns; Montana Battlefields, 1806-1877; Going Along the Emigrant Trails; Going Along with Lewis & Clark; and the Lewis & Clark Expedition Illustrated Glossary. Fifer continues to write and edit from her home in Helena, Montana.
