Kathleen Stewart was born in Sydney in 1958. She is the author of four previous works of fiction: Waiting Room, Victim Train, Louis: A Normal Novel, Spilt Milk and Nightflowers. Split Milk was shortlisted for the 1995 NSW Premier's Literary Awards. Her first collection of poetry, Snow, was shortlisted for the 1994 Banjo Awards, and the 1994 Age Book of the Year.
