Jules Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. Often referred to as the Father of Science Fiction, he is best known for his hugely popular Voyages Extraordinaire adventure series, including novels such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty Days.

He has been the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking between Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare. He died in March 1905, aged 77.
