Quirky Cat
Book Summary:
We’ve all made impulsive decisions when dealing with a rut. Lyla’s just the latest one to make this mistake. Sure, she’s been working hard on her degree and post-doctoral research, but when that begins to peter out…the temptation to say yes to her boyfriend’s request is too much.
After all, how could a short stint on a reality TV show be? Better yet, it’s a chance to get away, see an isolated island, and hopefully jumpstart her boyfriend’s career, all in one go. Naturally, nothing is going to go as planned.
My Review:
Back again with a new Ruth Ware book, and I’ll be honest, One Perfect Couple left me conflicted at times. On one hand, I think it’s one of her better novels in recent years. On the other hand, I kept wanting to scream at the main character(s).
On the whole, I think I enjoyed One Perfect Couple. It was thrilling and kept me on my toes - and there were several twists in there that I didn’t see coming. The ending wasn’t my favorite, but the other ninety percent of this book kept me guessing.
Then again, I don’t watch any reality shows, so maybe she was playing with tropes I didn’t spot/recognize. I would love to hear from people who consistently watch the shows that clearly inspired One Perfect Couple.
If you love twisty thrillers or reading about smart characters doing dumb things, you’ll love One Perfect Couple.
