Tracker is the prequel to the Talisman series by Tam Derudder Jackson. This is a good place to start for readers who are new to the series. For those who are familiar with the series, Tracker gives us the story of Lynette and Riley Sheridan. They were mated at the beginning of the series and Tracker gives readers the details of of how they became a couple.
Riley Sheridan, a young and skilled warrior, cares only about partying with his friends, and not interested in finding his fated talisman. So even though he completed the sign ritual, which signals the start of his quest for his mate, his focus remained on having a good time. Then he laid eyes on the raven haired beauty, Lynnette Montgomery changing his focus. He knew without a doubt she was his fated talisman. Lynnette has no idea as to the nature of her talisman talent. To discover her talent, both she and Riley went into the mountains to bond and learn about each other. However, the infamous goddess Morrigan was hellbent on stopping the mating ritual. Will Lynnette and Riley have the chance to complete the ritual for the goddess strikes?
The premise behind this series intrigued me. Warriors with special powers fighting an evil goddess and trying to find their fated talisman before time runs out. Each warrior possesses a special sign which they used to identify their fated talisman. When they find the special one, the mating ritual begins for them to gain strength from each other. Each talisman also possesses powers which they used to aid their mates battle. The couples face the challenge of defeating a goddess who has no desire to see them mated.
I found the world the author created interesting and I have an interest in learning more. As this was a novella, the author did not go too much in depth. However, she gave enough details to whet the reader’s appetite for more. Celtic mythology, goddesses and shamans were a few of the things mentioned.
Riley’s cocky attitude irritated me. So full of himself, but then what can one expect from a twenty-one-year-old who believed he was all that? Lynnette, being the complete opposite, helped to keep his cockiness in check. Her resourcefulness and strength came to light when they found themselves in the middle of a battle with the infamous Morrigan. The intense battle scenes will have readers on the edge of their seats.
Overall, Tracker delivered an entertaining read, which piqued my curiosity and left me eager to learn more about this intriguing world.
