Flick! Is a fiction work of gentle humour in which Harry, a man who has worked all his life, suddenly finds himself put into retirement because of the modern approach of his firm's management. He doesn't want to retire but his wife, Brenda, welcomes the chance for them to spend more time together - more time to tour garden centres and to visit their daughter, her husband and their two children.
Harry is resigned rather than enthusiastic. A young, helpful taxi driver proves to be a great help to both of them but the real moment that changes Harry's life comes in an antiques centre in York when he discovers a table-top football game, exactly as he used to play when he was a boy. Suddenly Harry realises that he now has time to be able to play it again just as he used to. It transforms his life as he rediscovers his old thrills and the excitement of the game. Retirement is now a different prospect and as well as time, word gets around that Harry Taylor is a finger-flicking force to be reckoned with. Stardom awaits.

The comedy is gentle, manic at times but all the way through there is the joy of an ordinary man whose sadness and bewilderment at the prospect of retirement is devoured by a new unsuspected challenge which finally puts the icing on the cake of uncertainty.
