Exciting and unpredictable, this installment hit things out of the park! I feel so immersed in this world and invested in all the characters. I'm so impressed by the writing style, I keep wanting to take notes for my own writing. But the reader in me keeps devouring each page. Onto the last of book 1...
This is my favorite book of the series so far. My favorite side character from A Whisper in the Dark has officially been promoted to being a main character, and some things I’ve been hoping would happen finally did. The character interactions fleshed out the story around the mysteries—yep, plural—Charlie is investigating. I can’t say more without giving spoilers.
There is definitely at least 1 twist I didn’t see coming (which is rare, and always enjoyable as a reader), and I am very impatient for Charlie to get deeper into her investigations (with a certain vampire at her side).
That being said, I think for the first time ever, the cliffhanger for this book didn’t immediately launch me into the final volume (for now) of the Charlie Travesty serial: [b:A Sacrifice in the Smoke|53213730|A Sacrifice in the Smoke (Charlie Travesty, #4)|Jessi Elliott|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1587355710l/53213730._SY75_.jpg|80494986], but I’m still very excited for it.
