Eli Moore is a young ten-year-old boy who is much like his father not only in looks but also with his love of science and exploring. Eli is also our narrator of the book and it’s pretty interesting to see the Amazon through Eli’s eyes. I’ve never been so it was still really cool. He’s such a three-dimensional character, he wants to go with his dad for this one trip, to help his dad find this elusive lizard that his dad has been trying to find. Once Eli gets there he realizes that it's most definitely different from what he’s used to. I wish we could have learned a bit more about this myth that one of the people in the outpost was talking about.
The next character is Eli’s father, Peter Moore, who is a biologist who also travels around the world vlogging for kids to learn more about different types of animals. Peter is the grown-up version of his son Eli. Peter becomes very bubbly and talkative about the animals he films for his vlog. However, he doesn't have that celebrity type of vibe that most people have when they vlog.
Then there is Kara, Peter and Eli’s dog. She is a gray German Shepard and most of the people in Peru have called her a wolf because they don’t know what a German Shepard looks like. Kara mostly goes on these trips with Peter to keep him safe and out of trouble, so that he could return home to Peter’s wife and Eli. But know she also has to protect Eli as well. She seems like a very well-behaved dog, which is always good.
Discovering the Legend of the Amazon by Anna Hagele is a good read for anyone and of any age to read. I am giving this book five stars.
