The Basics:
I Love You, Lola Bloom is a sweet F/F Romance between a well-known Lesfic author and her self-proclaimed biggest fan who meet at a lesbian book club. What should have been love at first sight is actually quite a bit more complicated.
My Thoughts:
I absolutely loved the set up for I Love You, Lola Bloom. Isn't it every single bookworm's dream to meet the love of their life at a book club meeting? It would just be a bonus if that love is also your favorite author! Maddy was immediately smitten with Ruby, and they seemed to hit it off, but then Ruby reveals that she's engaged! Obviously, we know where this is going, but it did add a good bit of tension to their interactions as they do spend quite a bit of time together.
The one issue I had with I Love You, Lola Bloom was the random chapter in the middle from Jen's, Ruby's fiancee, POV. It was entirely unnecessary and took away any anticipation or shock that could have arisen when this situation did reveal itself. Which it did. Twice. Instead of anticipating Ruby and Jen's inevitable break-up and wondering how it was going to come about, I was just waiting for it to get over with. The book essentially spoils itself for no reason.
Of course, the truth does come out. Jen and Ruby break-up so that Ruby and Maddison can finally have their turn. But it can't be that easy. There is the inevitable fight and separation, but luckily Ruby's brother is an excellent friend and voice of reason for her, so it doesn't get dragged out too much.
In the end, I did like I Love You, Lola Bloom overall. The premise is absolutely adorable and it was nice to see their relationship go from starstruck to steamy lovers.
