I enjoyed reading Scales and Skeletons and think Scarlett Dawn has created a great set of character, an interesting storyline, and a very, very different love story. While I enjoyed Trixie and Athon's story, there were times I did have a few reservations. All of the characters are original, quirky and I can picture them easily in my mind. The storyline is fast-paced, exciting and riveting. The very, very different love story is the one thing I'm struggling with.
Can a relationship be a success if the couple is not physically or sexually attracted to each other? I know mutual respect, friendship and appreciation for intelligence and skill are a great basis, but what if even those things are missing. Trixie and Athon are connected to each other but hate every moment of it.
I was amused in Trixie Towers #1 by the hero and heroine's hate for each other, but this time, I was a little uncomfortable with it. Having them openly share their dislike of appearance, natural instincts and heritage, seemed mean and very narrow-minded. There is one particular scene that left me scowling at my Kindle. It didn't stop me from reading but I am getting a wee bit sick of these two and their hate.
I almost want something...anything to happen to change their hate to love. How about...all of a sudden, he finds her pointy ears sexy, and she finds his big muscles wrapped around her, warm and reassuring. Wishful thinking...maybe.
I will keep going in the Trixie Towers series but I'm hoping for things to change between Princess Trixie and King Athon, King of the Shifters.
On another note...It does not compute that Trixie finds King Athon ugly and gross. HE'S A BIG, MUSCLEY SHIFTER for crikey sakes!! When picturing King Athon, I have Chris Hemsworth's *Thor* in my head...thank you, thank you, thank you, Scarlett Dawn.
