Kiss the Girl came highly recommended by several trusted book friends. I was hesitant. RomCom is so hit or miss for me. I have read Sivec's contemporary romances though and know she has a good style. So, I capitulate. Here are my thoughts:
- By the end of the first chapter, I wanted to throat punch Ariel. What a bitch! She is condescending, rude, and immature.
- By chapter 3/4 you learn the reason why but its still not a reason to behave the way she does. It just bothered me that a grown woman would behave the way she does and think its okay because her ex was verbally degrading to her.
- Eric is too good to be true. He is so in love with her and she is horrible to him. HORRIBLE.
- Ariel is lucky to have Cindy and Belle as friends. They are true ride or die bitches!
- Ok, by chapter 13 I don't HATE Ariel. I still think some of her behaviors are immature for a woman her age and that Eric is still too good for her. But, I have hope she will grow to be good enough for him.
- All right, so I think I have figured out that I just find Ariel abrasive. She kind of knocks women who are all gushy and lovey; like somehow being a snarky bitch is more in line with feminism? I just don't like people like her. But, that is just a personal thing. She might not annoy others!
Overall, this was a cute read. Lots of laughs and levity keep this book funny and easy. Eric is primo book boyfriend material for sure, so if you want a perfect hero, look no further. Take my thoughts on Ariel with the caveat that it was me, personally, struggling with her. Its possible that others won't find her as frustrating as I did.
