'Find Moira for me. Tell her I'm sorry.' These are the dying words uttered by artist Walter Drummond to his daughter, on his deathbed at their home in Woodstock, in 1936. Eleanor has never heard the name Moira before and doesn't dare utter it to her mother, and yet she is haunted by the mysterious woman who occupied her father's thoughts in his final moments. So begins a quest to discover the secret life her father never spoke of. Without her father's income, Eleanor must be resourceful to keep a roof over their heads and in a little town like Woodstock, everyone knows everyone else's business. Giving up her studies at Oxford and throwing herself into a new job, Eleanor becomes obsessed with finding Moira, but in doing so, discovers things about her family that she'd rather not have known.
