Before this novel, the author had written one more novel about Vicky Austin and her family, taking place between the events of "Meet the Austins" and "The Young Unicorns." These two novels were published in 1960 and 1968 respectively.
In this book, the character of Zachary Gray makes his first appearance.
Zachary Gray dates first Vicky and then, in the later books, Polly O'Keefe.
The elements which are there in the novel "The Moon by Night" are not to be found in the other novels written by the author.
