The kingdom of Holland in its present form is a creation of the nineteenth century. The independent nation dates, however, from the last quarter of the sixteenth century, and is therefore somewhat more than four hundred years old. And the nation was itself built up from a group of little sea-swept feudal states whose recorded history reaches back at least as far as the beginning of the Christian era.
The Dutch folk tales have always been unique for their rich cultural background and morals. The world of folklore remains incomplete without folk tales from Netherlands.
