One of my goals this year is to read more classics, and this was the first one I picked up for 2018. I've seen the movie a couple of times and thought I'd read this to see which one I preferred. I read it all in one sitting, and it's safe to say that at the end of it I was wondering WTF I'd read. This is a tale of complete and utter nonsense, full of whimsy and completely fantastical.
While this was an entertaining read, ultimately I do prefer the movie version. The movie seemed to have more plot, whereas the book was lacking in this area. As nonsensical as the movie is, the book is even more so given the absence of plot. It also ended somewhat abruptly, whereas the movie was more fleshed out and had a better ending. All that aside, I think I'm still keen to pick up the sequel at some point - 3 stars.
