When I start reading a Max Monroe story, I know I'm going to escape reality for a wee while, have a chuckle or two and meet an absolutely sexy and beautiful hero who happens to have a dollar or two...billion. The Billionaire Book Club was definitely an escape from reality. The characters are OTT, the storylines are extremely unlikely and the love story seems too good to be true.
BUT...I liked it.
I know that it's unlikely that an everyday woman is going to cross paths with a sexy billionaire. I accept that I'll give a hero more than one chance because...HE'S A HOT BILLIONAIRE! There's also a good chance I might squint (so I'm not really seeing it) at the totally inappropriate office behaviour. It's just that it would be kind of cool (besides the inappropriate office stuff) if a billionaire-hot-guy-hero fell for an everyday woman.
Saying all that, there was a wee bit of time that even I was a little bit put off by the HOT BILLIONAIRE! This guy is pretty gross in the beginning. He sees women as sexual objects and not much more. Mind you, the women we meet who have been with him previously, don't seem to mind.
I don't think Max Monroe shows sexually active women in a favourable light. You can be a sexy and confident woman who knows what she wants in the bedroom, without them coming across as crass or desperate.
Anyways, The Billionaire Book Club made me smile, sigh and squirm...just the way I like my rom-com's. Do I believe that Cap and Ruby were meant to be and are destined for a happy ever after? Well, I'm not sure how their last page will look, but, like every fairy tale...we can dream.
