Kathleen Jamie's debut pamphlet was originally published by The Salamander Press, Edinburgh, in 1982. When the press was closed, Bloodaxe Books acquired the remaining stock and distributed it (with a Bloodaxe ISBN) until it sold out. Most of the poems included in Black Spiders were reprinted in her first full-length collection, The Way We Live, published by Bloodaxe in 1987. The original Salamander ISBNs were 0 907540 15 5 (cloth) and 0 907540 16 3 (paper).
