I really liked Her Best Shot, but I wish it were longer! Layla is quickly approaching graduation and she already has her dream job lined up, so to celebrate, she and her girlfriends are going to have an awesome Spring Break in Texas. Too bad that Layla's car breaks down on her way and her wallet gets stolen while playing pool at a bar. Luckily, she's been playing with Phin who offers her a place on his couch while he repairs her transmission. It's certainly a vacation Layla is not likely to forget.

Her Best Shot was fun. I loved that Layla was a math geek, and I thought the pool shark angle was great. But like I said, it was too short! I don't feel like I really got a sense of who Layla was other than being a math geek. I couldn't tell if her behavior was out of character and she was throwing caution to the wind. Or is she a sexy math geek who regularly picks up guys? I just didn't know, especially toward the end when she makes a seemingly rash decision.

Other than that, I thought Her Best Shot was great. It's super sexy! Phin and Layla are great together! There are some interesting tidbits about his culture that affect what they do in the bedroom, but I do wish he hadn't been constantly referred to as a "gypsy." Perhaps we should move past that word. I also really enjoyed their pool playing scenes together. Layla is competitive! The ending was really open though, so I wanted to know what happened next!

Cute, short novella about a brainy girl and a gypsy guy. Because the story is so short you don't really feel like you get to know the characters super well; however, you do find out enough about them to make the story work. Overall, they are likable and relatable characters. I thought the gypsy aspect to Phin's character was really interesting and not something I have read about in a male character before. I also love books where the girls are super brainy (she's a math and computer sci major who wears math t shirts! Thats just cool!). If you are looking for a short, steamy read this is a great book to add to your TBR

I have to say I enjoyed reading about Layla's character. At first, I thought "This is going to be one of those books where the girl takes the guy back instantly and it could get boring." Boy, was I wrong. Let's start from the beginning, shall we?

Layla went to an internship interview and ended up getting the offer to work. Before starting to work, her friends and her decided to spend Spring Break together over at Texas. Unfortunately, Layla's car broke down and she ended up at a bar, watching Phin play pool. She decides to catch Phin's attention and goes to play pool with him, earning a few lessons from him.

Phin is a guy that never stays in one place for long. He lives on his own, without having someone to order him around or dictate his future. At night, Phin goes to different bars and plays pool and it is how he earns a part of his money. He works as a mechanic where he is currently living and decides to help Layla out—even offering her a place to stay.

The heat between these two characters is palpable right from the start. They don't waste any time getting things done, if you know what I mean. There's something more between them and once they realize it and Layla is changing her future for Phin, he makes a mistake.

And this is where it will be cleared up what I said at the beginning of the review. Phin makes a mistake and Layla walks away for good, at the time. They meet again two months later at a pool tournament and Layla is determined to win the tournament to prove she is good enough at something in life. Phin is desperate to get her back but Layla turns her girl-power on (go, Layla!) and she gives a hard time—makes him sweat for it, which is what I loved about Layla. She didn't immediately fall back into Phin's arms as is expected in every Romance book, so kudos to the author for including this into the story.
