This publication seeks to explain how female migration affects the women's empowerment process. The book presents case studies from two countries in Southeast Asia - Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The first part of each study reviews official data on female migration and identifies gaps in the data. It also looks at 'good practices' and other initiatives of government, non-governmental and private institutions with regard to female migration, as well as the national and international laws and their observance. The second part of each case study presents the results of field research conducted in these two countries and one receiving country in West Asia.
