Under Lady Ramia's orders, Vord reluctantly dumps Duzell in the middle of the forest. Wanting to return to Ishtar before the fight, Duzell is rushing through the forest when he stumbles on a fight between Laphiji and Sharlen. Thinking that Sharlen might be a reincarnation of one of his men from his previous life, Duzell prevents Laphiji from killing Sharlen.
