This book will encourage children to explore the properties of materials such as paper, metal, wood and plastic in a variety of practical activities. Children will have the opportunities to look for similarities and differences in materials, to consider their properties and how they can change, for example by stretching, twisting or melting. All the activities will draw on materials readily found in any nursery or reception class, such as play-dough, wood shavings, foil, buttons and fabric scraps. The child-centred activities will provide an excellent foundation for later learning in the National Curriculum and Scottish 5-14 National Guidelines.
