Broken Bridges was a lovely story about a twelve year old boy Rey visiting his grandparents, his mom had disappeared and his dad seemed to distance himself from the situation, hence why Rey was at his grandparents in the summer with no air-con! As any young boy would do at that age is go to the places that he shouldn't have and get into trouble. He also had to deal with bullies, his grandfathers love of horseradish sauce which Rey didn't like at all and His grandfather told him lots of stories from the past and his grandmother was always sewing her patchwork quilt.
This bought back a lot of memories of my childhood and being with my parents. There was a lot o laughter, fun, adventure in the book but also some really sad and emotional times.
It made a change to read a book like this with no real fantasy about it just good old memories.
