The "Portfolios" video series offers a model of curriculum and evaluation in which students have a strong voice in planning and documenting their work. Filmed in elementary classrooms during the University of New Hampshire's Manchester Portfolio Project, the videos show how teachers and students implement portfolios to develop inner standards of excellence in reading, writing, and evaluation.By focusing first on what they can do, these students become actively engaged in school, regardless of learning history. They document the value they find in their work, continually asking, "What will I put in my portfolio to capture effort and growth?" As they work together discussing and writing reflections on their progress, students come to recognize what's working, what's not, and how they might improve.
