I'm always worried that I'll pick up one of Kelley's short stories and be disappointed. It's never the case though so I don't know why I wait so long to read them! I found that this one added some bits and pieces to the story without being a need to read short story. Kelley's always been good at this. This time we get to see more of what Gabriel is thinking and it makes me want the last book right away!
Lost Souls is a novella that takes place in the Cainsville series, after Book 3, Deceptions and before Book 4, Betrayals. I love the Cainsville series so much, that I ordered the special edition version of this book, with illustrations...then ordered the Kindle version because it came out earlier. Because I'm that crazy and needed this story THAT bad. And I wasn't disappointed.
With this book being a Gabriel Walsh story, mainly, it was no surprise I would love it, as Gabriel Walsh is my absolute favorite character in...pretty much everything. Watching as he was forced to navigate emotional attachments (he's bad at this. VERY BAD), listening to his thoughts vs. what he actually says when defending a client, and viewing as he teeters on the tightrope that is life with Olivia was a very rewarding experience for my fangirl heart. I couldn't expect all that much, since I read the book that came after it, so I knew what was coming for the characters, but I truly enjoyed this little sidebar of a mystery.
