Sophie King is an author I have never read. I don’t quite know how that’s come about as she’s been quite a prolific author. She’s now writing novels under the pen name Janey Fraser and I’m pleased to say I DO have one of her novels, ready to read. So when I was offered her brand new short story collection to review, Tales From The Heart, I jumped at the chance of discovering King’s work even if it was only in short story form.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tales From The Heart. It’s a collection of twenty of Sophie’s short stories that have appeared in women’s magazines and have been collated into one collection. I love short stories, especially as a quick thing to read before bed, and Tales From The Heart was an excellent collection, filled with a wide and varying range of stories. There were some that stood out more – the one about a daughter and her father during the war, the story of a young couple who inspire an elderly lady into thinking of her past. There’s something for everyone and it’s a brilliant read. Whether you read them all in one go, or whether you read a story a night, it’s a short story collection you must read and King is a brilliant story-teller. I cannot wait to read a full-length novel of hers.
