St Petersburg, Russia, 1909. Marceline Villeneuve Dumas' arranged marriage to the debauched and violent aristocrat Vladimir Ivanov drives her into the arms of Captain Yuri Grigoryev but when he is blinded fighting the Tsar's battles, she seeks help in the form of the infamous priest, Rasputin. As Russia moves closer to inevitable revolution, Marceline's turbulent life draws her closer to the ill-fated Tsar Nicholas and his family. Soon her fate is tied to theirs as she shares abdication, imprisonment and exile, finally leading to a cellar in a house in Ekaterinburg in July 1918 and the tragic events that lead to a secret which has implications for generations to come.
