From a very early age, Lucy had been told by her mother that if she wanted a peaceful life, she must obey men and do whatever she is told to do, no matter what it is. If things go wrong it will always be her fault and she has to accept whatever punishment is necessary.
James, her boyfriend, takes great delight in abusing Lucy, both verbally and physically. After years of living together she is totally obedient and accepts her situation without question but James still enjoys abusing her for his own sexual thrills.
They move from Middlesbrough to Whitby, North Yorkshire in England where James meets Sally, a local prostitute and together they hurt Lucy for their own pleasure.
Lucy eventually escapes and turns to Harry, a local man whom she had met in a tearoom on their first day in Whitby and feels that he is the only person that she can trust. He has been abused himself and understands how she is feeling and wants to help her all that he can.
