In these times of shrinking budgets, scarce economic resources, intensifying criticism of the results of public schools, and increased demands on schools to provide more than traditional education, educational partnerships can serve as major resources to schools. This issue discusses the establishment of productive partnerships with families, health service professionals, higher education institutions, businesses, nonprofit agencies, and religious organizations. Using real-life examples and case studies, the contributors examine the challenges and potential benefits of these partnerships, and describe the leadership needed to create and sustain long-term, nurturing relationships between schools and other organizations in the community. This is the 2nd issue of the quarterly journal New Directions for School Leadership.
