"The House That Had Enough" is a book about a very messy little girl named Anne. One morning Anne wakes up on the floor and discovers that her bed is standing over her. The bed tells her that he has had enough of her jumping up and down on him and he is going someplace where people will take better care of him. Next, Anne's clothes stand up and say they are leaving too because she gets them dirty, tears holes in them, doesn't wash or fold them, and just throws them on the floor. Anne's pillow, however, decides to stay because Anne has always been nice to him.
When Anne goes into the bathroom, the toothbrush, the toothpaste, the soap, and the towels says they are leaving too. So Anne goes into the kitchen. And to her surprise the refrigerator, the spoons, the knives, the forks, the dishes, and the glasses were walking out of the door. Even Anne's toys leave her.
Anne goes outside with her pillow and sees that her house is standing up to leave also. He has had enough of Anne slamming his doors and leaving his windows open when it rains. Anne and the house talk for a minute and the house decides to see if all of Anne's things will come back if Anne will promise to take better care of them. So a little while later, the house and all of Anne's things return. Anne cleans and puts everything back into it's proper place and promises to keep things neat and clean from now on.
